The Express/Lube Technician performs light maintenance and repairs which include lube, oil, and filter changes, balancing and rotation of tires and flushing cooling systems and is an entry-level position. Duties and exact title may vary from dealership to dealership, based on manufacturer requirements. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
  • Performs a safety inspection per the inspection sheet in X Time.
  • Recommends lubrication, safety inspection and other related services. Maintains related records on regular customers, following up periodically with telephone, mail or personal reminders.
  • Inspects vehicle fluid levels, replenishes as necessary.
  • Checks tire pressure and adds air and/or rotates if needed.
  • Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts.
  • Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
  • Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
  • Communicates with service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
  • Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
  • Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Ensures that customers' cars are kept clean. Notifies service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
  • Keeps shop area neat and clean.
  • Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as when they were received.
  • Understands, keeps abreast of and complies with federal, state and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know etc.
  • Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Reports any safety issues immediately to management.
  • Ensures all vehicles are locked and keys are stored in the Key Track machine when not being used.
  • Follow instructions for parking as required per Service Manager’s instructions.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Additional, Dealer-Specific Duties May Include

  • Participates in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events.
  • Technicians will be designated as Subaru Express Technicians, Volkswagen Express Technicians, Kia Lube Technicians, or the likes based on dealership, training, and manufacturer requirements. Duties required will be similar, but specifically tailored.
  • Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
  • Complete services efficiently and according to dealership and/or manufacturer guidelines
  • Follows safeguards, rules, and regulations that are specific to each dealership and/or manufacturer.
  • Perform the multi-point inspection report thoroughly.
  • Perform MPI as outlined by OEM procedure when working within each specific dealership.
  • May be used on applications for tear downs if needed at CDJR locations.
  • May be required to assist in the front of the shop.
  • Depending on skill level and tenure, may assist in monitoring the shop and other technicians.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to learn new technology and repair and service procedures.
  • Comfortable operating electronic diagnostic equipment
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and work on your feet for extended periods of time.
  • Use power tools, machine tools, and common hand tools to perform various tasks
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Positive, friendly attitude

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Three to six months related experience and/or training preferred.
  • Knowledge of automobiles
  • Some certifications may be required based on dealer specific requirements.
  • Must be able to pass a background check, drug screening, and Motor Vehicle Report.
  • Technical background preferred.
  • ASE certifications preferred.
